Stripped

Things to do (in the near future):

  • Decide what I am doing for my birthday (besides claiming my free birthday MexMart.
  • I really need to get the light fixture installed in my kitchen. I need light in there.
  • Work on Keely's pirate costume.
  • Paint my bike. I decided to go with Mango. I was looking for peach but Mango is close enough.
  • Go to Frankenbike and get parts for cheap.
Items of note from last week:
  • I made it to Yellow Bike. They have a nice workshop on E.51st. My bike is completely dismantled and I am working on removing the grease and roughing up the paint.
  • I went to happy hour with my coworkers.
  • I've started working my way through Freaks and Geeks.
  • Em and I saw Les Savy Fav at Emo's. It was a good show. They made going out in 30 degree weather worth it.

Constructive Destruction

Things to do (in the near future):

  • Yellow Bike open workshop: I need to get a few links of chain and use the tools in the workshop.
  • I really need to get the light fixture installed in my kitchen. I need light in there.
  • Work on Keely's pirate costume
Items of note from last week:
  • Cedar was at record highs last week. I spent most of the week in a Benadryl haze to prevent myself from clawing out my eyes.
  • Craigslist alert: I found another new bike to tear apart. This one was really interesting. It's a 1970s Niitaka Mixte bike. It's made of steel and heavy as hell. I plan to strip off all the unnecessary parts, paint it and make myself a nice single speed bike.
  • Band of Horses sold out already. There may be a chance that I find tickets on Craigslist.
  • I had 3 meetings to attend on Friday. If I am ever in charge, there will be no meetings on Friday.
  • I learned about the Austin Public Library website. I figured out how to reserve books and have them shipped to a library of my choice.

Girls with Bikes

So we have all decided that 2008 is not going to suck.

Things to do (in the near future):

  • Em and I are going to fix up our single-speed bikes and have them ready for SXSW. I am looking for parts on Craiglist and debating if I want to continue with the frame I have or get something different. Frankenbike and the Yellow Bike Project are other resources to be used.
  • I am going to volunteer for SXSW so I can have a badge again. Volunteer call is on January 20th.
  • In an effort to go out and enjoy the live music capital, I am buying my tickets for Band of Horses this week.
  • I really need to get the light fixture installed in my kitchen. I need light in there.
Items of note from last week:
  • It was free week at Emo's so I went out on Friday night to see Brothers and Sisters. Last night we saw Quiet Lovely and LA Snacks. Emo's is a nice casual venue but I hate the sound guy. The sound is always so unbalanced.
  • I made myself some armwarmers and a new book bag. I've been saying that I needed a new black bag for the last year so I finally sat down and did it during my day home from work (who says that sick days can't be productive).
  • I am back to a love hate relationship with my hair. The braids are gone. The afro came and went. I resorted to the chemicals so I could brush it without crying in pain. My hair is short now and it looks good if I avoid humidity. But it really isn't possible to stay out of humidity in Texas.

Out with the old in with...

...something slightly different.

During our team retreat, my boss asked each of us what our goal for 2008 was. The best answer was from one of my self-appointed mentors. She said that she wanted to find her motivation. I guess the same goes for me on this site. Why should I keep going? You know I don't really care if anyone out there is reading this.

I thought about switching gears completely. I went as far as Googling "blog ideas" and came up with this list. The fact that I went there, depressed me. No worries, I didn't click on anything.

Since the beginning I was focused on things I've learned and things I am doing. I never really focused on what I want to do. In the effort to keep myself on track, I think that should be the focus. I haven't decided the frequency of my updates. I am thinking that Sunday morning would be convenient for me.

The other sites will be maintained on there usual sporadic basis. Whenever and whatever.
