Cover the uninsured week

The uninsured seem to be accident magnets. The last time I was uninsured (healthwise), I was in a head-on collision and required x-rays and dental work. Yet another reason why I keep my job.

What did I learn this past week?

  • Meg has actually picked a date for her wedding.
  • I played the "I was right game at work"
  • We looked up the definition of "savant" because of an article on autism. I think that there are probably a lot of people who are misdiagnosed as add or ocd when they are really autistic.
  • Mosquitos are crepuscular. They are out in full force right now. I think that I need to build one of these traps.
  • Craiglist is my hero. I found a new sewing machine and table for super cheap (from the original owner)
Projects!
  • Sewing: I have a billion projects going on. The most important project was organizing my sewing room. I am working on a few shirts, and a stack of stuff for Megan.
  • Cooking: I made quiche with Spinach, feta and sundried tomatoes
  • Soul Cleansing: I spent some much needed time with 2 of my best friends this weekend. I also removed a bunch of clutter from my workspace.

National Effectiveness Week

I am wondering how effective my web experiment has been lately. I feel like I am stuck on the plateau. I am getting tired of working at 2 jobs but unfortunately the one I would like to keep doesn't offer health insurance and it doesn't pay enough that I could ensure that my house wouldn't end up in foreclosure. So, I continue to work both jobs. One for the insurance and the money. One for the amazing opportunities ahead and the spare cash to afford things beyond food and lodging. If I sell my house I can make it work.

What did I learn this past week?

  • I've been scavenging the internet for a new sewing machine. Mine was injured and I am looking at buying something with less plastic parts. The new machine will probably be as old as I am and manufactured by Kenmore, Necchi, or Viking.
  • Re-run season has started. The lame season finales have come and gone.
Projects!
  • Sewing: More recycled shirts. I have finished 1 and there are 2 more in the works.
  • Yard: I hate mowing. The mosquitos are out in full force.

National Women's Health Week

What did I learn this past week?

  • I went to Dallas last week for training at EPA.
  • My sewing machine still works. I should probably replace the bobbin holder but that is low on the priority list.

Projects!
  • Sewing: I am taking a beginning sewing class. I am also in the middle of several recycling projects. I've discovered a lot of cool tutorials online. Check them out.
  • Gardening: the low-impact challenge continues.

National Nurses Week

Meg, this week is for you...

What did I learn this past week?

  • I made an attempt to root and transplant the honeysuckle that has gone crazy in the front yard. It didn't go so well. I am still waiting to see if the asian jasmine transplant is going to work.
  • I went to a fashion show on Sunday, once again there was no review of the event.
  • My sewing machine has problems. As I was finishing my new skirt, the machine decided to eat up the bobbin holder.
Projects!
  • Sewing: I have 2 new jean skirts. I am writing a tutorial on how to convert jeans into skirts with clean finished edges.
  • Yard: low impact gardening continues.

Safe Kids Week

What did I learn this past week?

  • The light fixture is down. It was falling and I had to put it out of its misery.
  • Honeysuckle has overwhelmed my mailbox. I planted some in the backyard last year but it has magically appeared in the front yard. Ants have also taken over the mailbox.
  • I hung out with Meg and she informed me that rabbits can get HPV and they grow horns.
Projects!
  • Yard: I had to mow again. I also cleaned out the flower beds a bit. Last year's low-impact gardening strategy seems to have worked. Almost all of the plants came back this year.
  • Sewing: I finished up a skirt and vest. The sundress class is over (I still need to hem it). I started a few refashioning projects. I am turning pants into skirts (2 pairs of jeans and 3 pairs of Chris' pants).
