Sky Awareness week

Take some time out to appreciate the fluffy clouds and remember that even though somedays it appears as if the sky might fall down, it's firmly held up.

What did I learn this past week?

  • It took about 7 hours to unbraid my hair and about 7 more to have it rebraided. This time things went much better with the rebraiding. The place I went to was called Charms.
  • I am in the process of taking my second sewing class. FirstSamples is offering a class on working with knits called "The Sundress". I have been avoiding knits because my sewing machine has a habit of chewing the fabric.
  • I discovered that there has been a rash of "trendy sewing centers" opening up in town. I haven't had time to check them out yet. I need to get past their websites (I am not impressed with their web design choices).
  • One of the flourescent lights in my kitchen is on the blink right now. I am thinking about replacing the ugly fixture since I have to take the thing apart in order to change the lightbulbs.
  • I saw Tapes 'n Tapes and the Harlem Shakes on Saturday. The Emo's sound guy came close to spoiling the evening.
Projects!
  • Yard: my co-worker has been smuggling me plants from her yard as part of this year's round of low-impact gardening.
  • Sewing: The skirt and vest are still in progress. I am debating how to finish them off. In honor of Earth Day I started working on converting a pair of jeans into a skirt.

International Whistlers Week

What did I learn this past week?

  • The catchy whistling tune in the ATT/Cingular megaconglomerate TV Commercial is by Peter Bjorn and John. The song is called "Young Folks".
  • I have fallen in love with the Brandi Carlile Song that was featured in the latest "Grey's Anatomy" montage show.
  • The selections on emusic are getting better. I find that I am spending less time searching for stuff to buy and more time debating if I should increase my alotment of downloads for the month.
  • One of the trees in my front yard is dead. It was looking a little sad. I took a closer look and it turned out that I could pull off a whole limb.
  • I could pull off teaching the jeans class in 2 6-hour sessions. It was tough, but we made it.
  • Sometimes it's better to just call in sick. I felt crappy on Friday so I decided to email in sick. I spent the day lounging around.
Projects!
  • Sewing: The prom dress is done, and out the door. I am working on a vest and a skirt that I cut out back in February.
  • Yard: still trimming trees.

National Garden Week

What did I learn this past week?

  • I am researching hi-efficiency toilets for the house. As much as I would like to avoid replacing the toilet, that crack isn't going to heal itself.
  • The fence must go too (and the deck). I am thinking about composite lumber. I am still checking out what is available in town.
  • I was right to leave my flower beds full of leaves. We've been having freakishly weird weather. It was 35 on Saturday.
Projects!
  • Sewing: The prom dress is nearly done.
  • Yard: I love my telescoping clippers.

Medication Safety Week

Totally appropriate as I had to read the instructions that came with my birth control pills. My insurance prefers that I order my drugs online. I get a 90 day supply. For some reason I thought that I still had a month before I had to order more. I was wrong. Luckily expedited shipping exists. Anyways, I had to do some reading to figure out how many doses I could take to get back on schedule.

What did I learn this past week?

  • I was sentenced to 2 days in east Texas. The drive was nice. It was the first time that I didn't have to do any of the driving. I was multitasking. 3 meetings and an "audit". It wasn't ALL work though. We had a nice dinner at the Stillwater Inn, and stayed in a Bed and Breakfast (totally weird to stay in a BnB for a work trip, but it definitely beat out the La Quinta). And yes, that is a clawfoot tub in the corner of the room.

  • I've been listening to an online radio station. Some dude gave me the sticker at SXSW. Check it out Brandnameradio.com
  • I went to a clothing exchange this weekend. I ended up with more stuff for Meg than myself. But that is what happens when you are an amazon and you attend a clothing swap with pixies.
  • I took my cat to the vet. He was overdue for his shots. But the vet chose to lecture me on getting the cat's teeth cleaned rather than schooling me on the importance of getting shots updated on time.
Projects!
  • Sewing: the prom dress is about 75% done.
  • Yard: I had to mow again. The weather was nice though. I am thinking about demolishing the deck and fence in the near future.
  • Websites: I think the wordpress demons are in check. ProjectreFashion got a facelift.
  • Soul Cleansing: I spent some much needed phone time with Megan. We did a group brunch but the phone call was necessary.
