International Magic Week/World Communication Week

What did I learn this past week?

  • Our section at work had a retreat last week and we did an exercise in style typing. There are a lot more Pooh bears in the group than I expected.
  • I tried a new brownie muffin recipe. They turned out well but I think that I will make them in the giant muffin tin next time.
  • You can make a pretty decent halloween (or Slut-o-ween as some have called it) costume with materials found around the house. I went as a gold digger. I spent $12 on gold spray paint and a tool belt. I proceeded to paint my hard hat, rock hammer (from school), a garden trowel, a few handfuls of gravel, and a small pail gold on Friday afternoon. Saturday I located the tool belt and decided to glue rhinestones to it.
  • I would rather fly to east Texas than drive. I only lost 2 hours of my life vs 12 to travelling up to the middle of nowhere.
  • Guitar Lesson #7: Still working on bar chords and strumming patterns.
Projects!
  • Sewing: I took a week off. I did some sketching and tried to figure out what I was making next
  • Websites: nothing new unless you count revamping my Myspace profile.

The Magic of Differences Week

What did I learn this past week?

  • I took my car in to the shop and apparently the wire that was exposed above the front left tire was pretty important. I was told that I could have had an electrical fire. I was also in need of a new motor mount. I still spent over $700 but atleast I spent it on things that mattered (rather than spending it on coolant flushing and spark plugs).
  • Guitar Lesson #6: I am not afraid of the F chord. After I was told that 5 year olds can get it I felt the need to try harder.
  • My cat has decided to move back home. Summer is officially over.

Projects!
  • Sewing: The suit is done. I also finished Em's shorts. I am working on a syllabus for a class on jeans (after much procrastinating). I celebrated my victory with a thorough cleansing of my sewing room.
  • Reading: I finished Female Chauvenists Pigs and I am working on the sequel to the Feminine Mystique.
  • Baking: Gingerbread MUFFINS! I got the ingredients together before I went to bed on Saturday so I could sleep in a little bit longer.

Freedom from Bullies at Work Week

More gifts from the internet

What did I learn this past week?

  • The US was robbed by the Weinstein Brothers. I saw Kill Bill Uncut and Uncensored this weekend. The film was brilliant as a full-length feature with an intermission. It was a little more violent but mainly in that "so violent it is totally absurd" kind of way.
  • I attended a conference on the importance of stakeholders.
  • I have reached the point where the cost to repair my car is almost as much as the blue book value. Unfortunately a new car is not in my future. Unless the good people at Honda are willing to let me have a Honda Fit for free {if the good people at Honda are listening, I would like one in blue or orange, with a sunroof, automatic transmission and a kick ass stereo}

Projects!
  • Sewing: the suits are still in progress, I had to take apart the top-stitching on jackets to redo the interior. I am making a shirt to go with the grey suit
  • Reading: I finished the Feminine Mystique and I started Female Chauvenist Pigs. I will keep you posted on that.

National Fire Prevention Week

At home or in the office. I haven't had to deal with any home fires since I evicted my old roommate. Work is a different story. No wonder I am so grumpy. If I wanted to put out fires for a living I would pick the gig that involved a house full of hot guys and a pole.

What did I learn this past week?

  • This week was a bit of a blur. I don't remember much beyond making jackets.
  • I learned that I can record audio with my digital camera. I needed to preserve a message that someone left on my voicemail.

Projects!
  • Sewing: I am working on 2 jackets. I was going to rush through them so I could wear them to meetings this week but I decided that I would take the extra time to finish off the seams in the inside. Maybe I will get that done by the weekend.
  • Baking: I made pizza from scratch on Friday. I made the dough (whole wheat) the night before so it came out great.
