Be Kind to Humankind week

Yet another reminder of my goal to be more tolerant. We are all human beings. Granted that some human beings are what my friend Em would refer to as "stupid fucktards." I will do my best to consider them human beings until proven otherwise.

What did I learn this past week?

  • It pays to speak your mind. I spoke my mind and now I have the opportunity to collaborate on a project that I may not have been able to work on otherwise.
  • I've been doing some research on how to fit hard to fit people. My current test subject would be the bowling pin. Check out Spinsta.net in the near future for the details.
  • Saturday was date night with Megan. We went to a movie sponsored by NARAL Pro-Choice Texas at the super cool Moxie and the Compound. As always, date night with Megan was educational.
  • Guitar Lesson #2: More on blues structure and making my hands stronger. I learned my 1st three chords.
  • I watched Project Runway in the presence of boys (hetero). It was interesting to get their take on the whole thing. They are mainly watching for models. After the show I learned a new game (I was so sure that the game was totally made up, but if it's on the internet it must be legit).
Projects!
  • Sewing: I am working on a new challenge from Em. She wants board shorts and board shorts she will get (she will also get a pair of carpenter pants). I also made another pair of pants for work.
  • Dethroning fashion editor: Still working on it. Keep those letters to the editor coming. Projectrefashion.com has been chronicalling the whole thing.
  • Spinsta: I am exploring teaching a sewing class. Stay tuned.

Save your Smile week

Not that I would be out there wasting my smile or perhaps just giving it away. Google didn't have much to say about this observance.

What did I learn this past week?

  • I gave my sister some awesome advice (which now applies to my workplace more than ever). "My theory on compromising one's morals and jeopardizing your reputation at work... Only strippers and professional hit men get paid enough to do that."
  • I went to a billion meetings last week but I don't recall learning anything.
  • My design buddies have been meeting up for Project Runway on Wednesday nights. [I watched a little bit of last season but I haven't kept up with it due to lack of cable.] It's a totally different experience watching it with other people who can actually make this stuff. I was once again reminded of how uncool my current job is and that I need to get moving with my other projects.
  • Every Apple Does Go Bad Eventually: I had my first guitar lesson last week. My end of the deal for creating The Jellydots website. I will keep you posted on how that goes. In the meantime I will get back to practicing.
  • Sometimes it pays to leave the house. I finally saw yet another side project of a friend of mine. AUX. You should check them out.
  • With a little organization you can get your voice heard. I am currently working with a few friends to alert the Austin Chronicle that their fashion editor is currently out of style. You should check out the forums (Arts and Postmarks Online).
Projects!
  • Sewing: I completed my design challenge this week. I will have it posted on Spinsta.net tonight or tomorrow.
  • Websites: Projectrefashion.com is up and running. I had to learn a little more php for this one.

Weird Contest Week

I had to look this one up. I think I should think up a little challenge for prizes and excitement as well. In the meantime...

What did I learn this past week?

  • It takes me about 2 hours to drive to College Station. I had a rather surreal meeting at A&M last week.
  • It is possible to redirect the flying monkeys
  • You can buy ibuprofen at the headshop on 6th street (we were redirected there from a convenience store type place).
  • I think I had an over exposure to work BS. That's the only explaination I have for being violently ill on Friday morning (if only it were related to some wild party instead). More exposure to BS lead to a half day of work and much couching for the rest of the weekend.
Projects!
  • Spinsta: Researching what needs to go into a business plan. Too avoid actual work on this I have been blogging and helping to raise the bar on what fashion reviews really are.
  • Websites: same two are in progress.
  • Sewing: 6 breeder bags. I need some testers.

Psychic Week

Psychic. Something I am not. If I were psychic than I would not be working at my current job. I don't know that I would work at all.

What did I learn this past week?

  • I got some business advice from my old boss on what not to do when you are trying to operate a business.
  • I worked on my pattern drafting skills. I copied a pair of pants for a co-worker and started drafting breeder bag 2.0 (it needs to be a little larger). I also discovered the importance of making your own patterns. As usual I will be fashionably late in posting pictures to my Flickr page.
Projects!
  • Websites: more wordpress stuff. I am rebuilding 2 sites.
  • Spinsta: getting business advice.
  • Sewing: Refashioned Sundress

Simplify Your Life Week

What did I learn this past week?

  • I was reminded that I have little patience with people who can't control their children. I had my hair rebraided last week and my braider's kid was out of control. Awake and eating candy after 9pm.
  • The Texarkana airport gets points again for being the tiniest airport with the steepest security. I also learned that it's best to check in for your flight as early as possible to insure that you make it to the security checkpoint before it closes down (get there before 4:50 if you are taking the last flight out at 5:20).
Projects!
  • Sewing: Breeder bags are done.
  • Websites: I am starting to redesign stephaniedelk.com now that The Jellydots site is up and running.
