TheJellydots.com is up and running. I finished up the last bits today. I still have a few changes to make but that can happen later.

Reminder: 7/27 is Take your Houseplant for a Walk Day

What did I learn this past week?

  • Some people are more special than others (I am referring to work once again). I should write a song about that.
  • I've been learning even more about wordpress and all of the widgets. I am building the new and improved site for The Jellydots. It's close to done (which is good because their cd release is August 5. I will post a link to the site when I am done.
Projects!
  • This old house: The exterminator came on Friday. I haven't seen anything moving around. The pantry is still under construction.
  • Sewing: the breeder bags are almost done. They can be yours for the low, low price of $40.
  • Spinsta: Things are moving slowly. I need to file the paperwork and make it all official. Then I will be ordering labels and setting up the online store.
  • Soul Cleansing: Long weekend off from work. I had a massage on Friday. Kicked back and did some sewing. There was much couching and fondling of the remote (and about 7 hours of removing braids between Saturday night and Sunday afternoon).

National independent retailers week

So I am working on this whole "starting my own business" thing. Super easy but slightly risky. Lucky for me I have my dad and a good financial advisor to keep me informed.

So what did I learn this week?

  • So many business related things. The Small Business Advisor Guide is now on my to read list.
  • I attended more EPA Quality Assurance training. My co-workers think that I am crazy for being interested in this stuff but it makes sense to start a project with the end goal in mind and an idea of how to get there. Otherwise you are just wandering around aimlessly.
  • I saw A Scanner Darkly. My friend's husband convinced us to see it instead of Superman. I was willing to go because I missed it during SXSW (I was painting my kitchen cabinets). Well worth the wait. Normally I am not really into the sci-fi stuff. Gov't conspiracies on the other hand are totally my thing.
Projects!
  • This old house: I have an ant problem. Sugar ants are loving my house. I had been managing to control them with homemade bait (cornsyrup and boric acid). But they managed to prevail. They made their way to the pantry. I ended up removing the entire contents of the pantry to see if there might be something stuck to the shelf that might be attracting them. There wasn't anything. I did find that there was black mold growing on the top shelf. Apparently there was a leak up there which caused a ring of mold. I have no clue how long that was up there. So, I ended up removing all of the shelves (if I have to replace one, I should replace them all). I scrubbed the walls with oxyclean and left it to dry. The pantry (and the kitchen) should be painted before I replace the shelving). Until then the pantry items have been relocated to other parts of the house.
  • Sewing: I made a sundress and a skirt for myself. I had a gap between projects. Now I am back to those breeder bags.

Take Charge of Change Week

What did I learn this past week?

  • I saw Cut Chemist this weekend and he has an album coming out this week. The show was great. I was not surrounded by a see of teenage girls. It would have been better if they didn't shut the show down at 10:30. But I really can't complain. The show was free (or not so free, it was sponsored by the deathstar who I pay cell phone bills to every month.).
  • I've been researching how to start my own business. Tax stuff, DBA, etc... It doesn't appear to be that difficult. Spinsta the web based store is something to look for in the fall (or sooner if I get my act together).
Projects!
  • Soul Cleansing: I took a break last Sunday and spent a good portion of my day slacking with friends.
  • Sewing: One stack of alterations, DONE!. I also made some things for myself.
  • Spinsta: Moving right along.
  • Yard: I decided to mow. The neighborhood kids stopped by to ask if they could mow the yard for $30. I said no and took care of it.
  • Web: I have been checking out the wordpress plugins. Apparently there are a few for e-commerce.

Freedom from fear of speaking week

What did I learn this past week?

  • For such a tiny airport (1 gate), the Texarkana, AR airport has some pretty tight security.
  • I conducted an audit of one of our contractors and disscovered that they were highly underpaid. I suspected it but know I really know. So now I am in the process of educating them in one of my favorite areas, "knowing what you are worth."
  • It appears as if the end of the road to the new album is near for The Jellydots.
  • I went to the Loxsly "bring your own keyboard" event last week and wasn't all that impressed. Do not give your slightly intoxicated audience members keyboards.
Projects!
  • Website: Spinsta.net is now powered by WordPress. The conversion was pretty quick. I ended up using a premade theme and editing it to match up with the original Spinsta design. I think that I will wait to move the projectjen blog until the next css reboot.
  • Sewing: I finished some more things for myself.
  • House: I finally finished painting my kitchen cabinets. I only started this project back in December.
