National Prevention of Eye Injuries Awareness Week

Weapons check is still ongoing at work. A co-worker revealed that inaddition to two very sharp letter openers and a pair of scissors, she was harboring a multi-tool (hammer with a set of graduated screwdrivers inside).

What did I learn this past week?

  • A co-worker informed me that TBRC (Texas Bigfoot Research Center) reported "sightings" of the "Caddo Critter" (aka "Bigfoot") around my project area.
  • Ice Block racing is not a joke. It really happened and I have proof.
  • I saw a rather disappointing show last week. Be Your Own Pet played a rather sucky 30 minute set at Emo's.
  • I am still watching the train wreck that is "How to get the Guy". I am also hooked on "So you think you can dance". I must get off of the reality tv kick.
Projects!
  • Sewing: I didn't leave the house all weekend so I made 3 pairs of pants and started 2 skirts.
  • Websites: I am working on figuring out wordpress. It can do some pretty cool stuff.
  • Video Blogging: I made my first video blog with the help of freevlog.org, bliptv. and avid freedv.

My first video blog

So I knocked another item off of my SXSW Interactive to do list this weekend.

I attended the "How to add video to your blog" panel and now I have a camera that can take some pretty great video clips.

So here it is, Ice Block Racing "How to wipe out"

Appreciate Your Plumbing, Heating & Cooling Professionals Week

It has been really hot outside. Hot enough that I now run the A/C in my car and in my house. The house A/C is on a timer to keep my electric bills in check.

So what did I learn this past week?

  • Em got me out of the house not once, but twice. I've been trading clothing for concert tix. We saw 3 great bands at Stubb's on Tuesday. I highly recommend Tapes n' Tapes. We were back at Stubb's on Sunday for OK Go. The show was good but, it would have been much better minus a few hundred teenage girls. They get bonus points for the Pixies cover and the lesson on what MTV used to be like. Panic! at the Disco was a big let down. Their live show was like something out of Moulin Rouge (we were looking for Baz Luhrmann). The Smashing Pumpkins and Radiohead covers were not enough to win back all of the points I deducted.
  • More scientific research going on at work. Unfortunately the higher ups were not listening to my warning when I briefed them the other day. It was like I watching a b-movie. You tell the blond chick not to go in the basement because there is an axe murder down there but she goes anyway and gets hacked to bits. Stay tuned to see if she gets resurected for the sequel.
  • I violated a long standing rule and watched Office Space this weekend. You'd think that my friends would encourage the behavior of Peter Gibbons. Not showing up at work anymore is way better than the alternative (throwing staplers at co-workers).
Projects!
  • Sewing: Too many sewing projects and not enough free time.
  • Websites: The migration is complete I just need to tie up some loose ends.
  • Spinsta: 6 breeder bags in process. I really need to finish them and put them up for sale.

Meet a Mate week

What does that mean? I googled it to see what I could find. You get some interesting answers... The Related Sponsors column digs out some interesting links as well.

Anyways, this whole mating thing is highly overated. I happened to be flipping channels on Monday night and came upon a show called "How to get the Guy". I figured it could be entertaining, something light and fluffy perhaps or maybe as exciting as Elimidate. It was crap. How these women could sink so low? I will not be watching next week. It's like watching the documentary version of the rules.

"I am at home with the me. I am rooted in the me that is on this adventure."

What did I learn this past week?

  • I have been doing actual scientific research at work. One of my project areas has a serious invasive plant problem and I get to figure out how to make it all better (can you hear the sarcasm?)
  • All is well in breederville. My friends son should be out of the premie unit in a few more weeks.
  • I went to see We Are Scientists at Stubb's last week. It was really hot and I felt so old. The audience was mainly composed of teenage girls. I like my Indie Rock but being surrounded by a bunch of teeny boppers gets to be annoying.
Projects!
  • Sewing: Check out the Flickr page for the latest uploads. I am knee deep in new projects. I am working on a bunch of breeder bags as we speak. Why? $$$$
  • Websites: The migration to the new server is almost complete (I am having some webmail issues) The customer service at the new place ROCKS!!! Check them out at asmallorange.com

National Headache Awareness week

If you suffer from headaches you should read "Heal your headache: The 1-2-3 program taking charge of your pain", by David Bucholz. Nurse Megan recommends it.

So what did I learn this past week?

  • The SD card in my digital camera decided that it didn't want to work anymore. I need to see if leaving it in the camera was a bad thing.
  • Barton Springs Pool gives refunds if the pool gets closed for inclement weather.
  • The flickr uploader is really easy to use. Check out what Spinsta has been up to here.
Projects!
  • Websites: Having issues with the new server people. It's been a week and I haven't heard from them yet. They managed to send me a bill pretty quick.
  • Spinsta: More refashioned stuff. Check out the pictures. I started making diaper bags. My friends are breeding. I figure it is a useful item to have available for sale. The ugly/disfunctional ones start at $30. I figure cute and functional must be worth quite a bit.
  • Cooking: I am hooked on Gingerbread cupcakes. They are more like a muffin though. I have been eating them for breakfast without the lemony frosting.
