Great American Grump Out Day

May 31st. A whole day of not being grumpy, crabby, or rude. I don't know if I could do that. What about being bitchy? That would be the mood de jour. Especially at work.

What did I learn this past week?

  • Sometimes you have to tell your boss what to do. I haven't had that happen very often. I don't know that I like it.
  • I finally saw my friend's band play. Check out their myspace page here or here. They are awesome.
Projects!
  • Sewing: More clothes for me. I made a completely recycled outfit which I modelled at a house party this weekend. I have a ton of projects that I'd like to be working on. Maybe I will take some time off from work to get that done.
  • Spinsta: I may be making some band uniforms in the not-so-distant future.
  • Yard: I finally went out and mowed the "back 40". I really need to address the fence problem.

National New Friends, Old Friends Week

So what did I learn this past week?

  • I found an effective and safe way to kill ants in my kitchen. I made homemade ant traps out of yogurt lids filled with a mixture of corn syrup and boric acid. The sugar ants swarmed around the tasty (and deadly delight) for a day or so and I haven't seen them since.
  • Control. I have been advocating for a change in perspective around the office lately. People are spending more time on trying to figure out the things that we have no control over. What really needs to happen is a strategic plan for what we can accomplish and then move on from there. Or in the case of someone who works for the man, its important to list what you are able to do to avoid having extraneous work dumped on you.
  • Onesies have great graphics on them. The art is clear and uncomplicated (for the most part). I bought a few at Goodwill to make patches to put on a skirt made out of some old pants.
Projects!
  • Sewing: Megan has contracted me to make her professional back-to-school wardrobe. I finished a skirt and 2 pairs of pants. I have one pair of pants left to go. I would have been done but I decided to make 2 pairs of pants for myself.
  • Websites: only procrastination. I need to continue purging stuff for the move to the new server.
  • Spinsta: My "war and peace" yoga bags are done. I need to find a source of cheap cargo pants to make more.

National Effectiveness week

My question for the week is... How effective is "face time"? I was forced to spend 12 hours in transit to attend a 2 hour meeting for work because the higher ups feel that "face time" is important. Apparently they feel that technology (teleconferencing) is a cop out. 12 hours wasted for 2 hour meeting (you do the math kiddos)

So what did I learn this past week?

  • I can make button fly pants without a pattern.
  • Meetings about meetings are pointless.
Projects!
  • Spinsta: Storyville pants are done. I also have yoga bags.
  • Sewing: khaki pants are done. They look good but I think that I will sell them. I think that I just don't want to be wearing the symbol of "the man"

National Nurses Week

That's right Meg. This week is for you. The Naughty SCHOOL Nurse.

What did I learn this past week?

  • I spent another week "vacationing" from the office. I took a wastewater treatment lab class. I got to use "real" science (and math). Unfortunately, we had to deal with real untreated effluent (raw sewage). Thank goodness the lab is ventelated.
  • I learned that friends of mine had their kid 2 months early. Everyone is ok. But I am blaming the severe weather patterns on the kid.
Projects!
  • Sewing: I finished a pair of khaki's for work. I'd been making stuff for everyone but me.
  • Spinsta: I am working on pants to take to Storyville. I need to come up with a name for them. I will post pictures on flickr when they are done.
  • Websites: I am preparing to move to a new webserver. I want something that supports php so I can fiddle with some stuff that Jordan has been working on. AJAX is where it's at.
  • Garden: The honeysuckle cuttings that I planted in the windowbox are growing. I don't know that they have roots.

Eat Dessert First Week

What did I learn this past week?

  • I spent the last week "vacationing" from work at the EPA QA conference. I was surrounded by many data managers and statisticians but not many project managers.
  • This weekend I went to the Grand Opening at the Blanton Museum. I need to go back and explore it further. It was a little overwhelming at 2am.
Projects!
  • Websites: spinsta.net is up and running. projectjen.com has been rebooted.
  • Sewing: I finished a pair of gaucho pants. The skirts are done (I just need to put elastic in the last 3.
  • Spinsta: Still working on samples for Storyville.

Rebooted

CSS Reboot strikes again
