Electronic Communications Week

What did I learn this past week?

  • Enterprise Rent-A-Car was not lying when they said that if I needed anything that I should call the 800 number. I was driving back from Hughes Springs on Thursday night and hit something in the road and managed to get a flat. Ordinarily one would avoid things in the road but that was next to impossible in the storm that I ran into south of Waco. I called the 800 number and they said that they would have someone out to fix the tire or or tow the car in about 45 minutes (apparently a lot of people were in need of roadside assistance that night). I got a call from the local towing company in Temple and they said that they would have someone out to me in 20 minutes. The towing guy came and changed my tire (in the rain) and I didn't even have to get out of the car. The cost to me? NOTHING!
  • I want a car with a sunroof. The rental had a sunroof and I had a great time on my 6 hour drive to Hughes Springs with it open. It didn't hurt that it also had a 6 cd changer.
Projects!
  • Websites: Spinsta.net should be up and running next week. I spent a chunk of time workin on the css this weekend. I managed to get things pretty close to the mockups I made in photoshop.
  • Sewing: I have 1 skirt left to finish up.
  • Spinsta: I am working on getting some samples together for Storyville. My goal is to get that stuff done by mid-May.
  • Gardening: I am working on getting control over the weeds in my garden. My co-worker shared her gardening trick of spreading out a thick layer of newspaper (don't cover up your plants) before putting down the topsoil to kill off the weeds and grass in the flower beds.

Consumer Awareness Week

What did I learn this past week?

  • It's important to take time off from work. I took off Thursday and Friday last week. Thursday I spent 5 hours getting my hair braided. Yes, that is a very long time to sit in a chair but, it is worth not having to do anything with my hair for the next 3 months. I spent the remainder of the weekend sewing.
  • I was reminded why I don't like going salsa dancing. Megan and I went out on Thursday and I was groped by some scary old guy. Why is it that guys use salsa dancing as a cheap excuse to grope women?
  • I went on a field trip to Storyville to find out why Em is so addicted. I now know why. This is where my Spinsta fashion line belongs. It felt good to be hanging out with the creative people.
Projects!
  • Website: I finished my web design book and made a few mockups for Spinsta and the Projectjen reboot. I think I need to take another day off from work to get all of this finished up.
  • Garden: I dug out some grass to plant some Asian jasmine.
  • Spinsta: I am in the process of designing the spring line of pants. I made 6 skirts in the last week. If anyone is interested in custom fitted skirts, speak now. I am also in need of labels. Nothing fancy. 2 color printed labels with washing instructions on the back would be fine.
  • Sewing: I have migrated into the dining room. I am tired of crawling around on the floor to cut out patterns. I cut out 9 skirts and 2 pairs of pants in the last week.

Garden Week

I mowed my lawn for the 1st time in many months. I still have to edge but atleast I have managed to keep the dandelions under control. I cleared out a section of the flower beds in the backyard (the rose bush was being attacked by weeds). The next step is to extend the flower beds into the yard another foot (the goal is to do less mowing in my little backyard).

What did I learn this past week?

  • I went to 1st Thursday and was drafted to model clothing for Storyville. It was a fun event. I got to wear a wacky outfit which included a Mad Hatter-type hat and these dragon-esque wings.
  • I spent a lot of time meeting with the river authority people for work. I know a lot more about the program that I work for.
  • I went to the Stylicious party. I wasn't all that excited about it. The bar was loud. I didn't get their early enough to get free stuff.
  • Girls love horses... I saw Morningwood last Sunday night. I liked the SXSW show better. I think I was mainly disgruntled by the number of highschool students surrounding me.
Projects!
  • Sewing: I am working on a billion sewing projects. I finished my own pair of Vogue Jeans and I am committing myself to a few months of skirts and handbags. Maybe a few shirts.
  • Websites: nothing new. I am still figuring out a new color scheme for projectjen

Hate Week

What did I learn this past week?

  • Vogue patterns are not as difficult as I thought. I managed to put together Vogue pattern #7481. I will take pictures of this stuff once it's done and post it on my new website.
  • I took a sewing class at Firstsamples called Project Re-Tees. The studio is fairly new and you should check out their classes. The Project Re-Tees class gave me a lot of cool ideas on recycling clothing.
Projects!
  • Sewing: I finished Em's pants on Saturday and finished an alteration job. I got Karen's pants to the point where she could try them on and found that I need to rework the waistband.
  • Websites: Still working on Spinsta and Cutting Edge Dance. I continued my CSS research project. I brought "Stylin with CSS" with me when I took my car in for an inspection. I have a lot of new ideas for the Projectjen reboot and the new sites.

This old house 2006

4 years of home ownership.
The only problem of 2005 was the water leak under the cabinet (December). I still haven't dealt with my fence issue and I haven't found a sponsor for my hot tub. I need to finish painting the kitchen cabinets/drawers so I can have knobs and handles again.

What did I learn this past week?
Nothing of note. I did some work on the websites and a whole lot of sewing.
