Travelers with Disabilities Week

What did I learn this past week?

  • I learned the hairy scary details of what the funky smell in the kitchen was. The hot water intake hose for the faucet was leaking. How to fix it? Well, I am no plumber so I decided to pull a McGuyver and duct tape it so I could deal with the funky rotten wood problem. I pulled out the bottom of the cabinet only to discover that there was a layer of what looked like the floor of a forest after it rains. Muddy and little bits of wood. Damp smell... Guess who ended up gutting their cabinets?
  • Necessity is the mother of invention. More on that later.
  • I learned that Girl's night in is just as important as Girl's night out.
Projects!
  • Sewing: The pants marathon continues. I cut out 3 pairs of pants and put them together (up to the waistband part). I made myself a skirt and I started working on more recycled yoga bags (made out of cargo pant legs).
  • Home repair: I need to go to Home Depot.
  • Spinsta: Check out my logo...

What exactly is Spinsta?
You will just have to wait and see :)

Better Conversation Week

I spent the majority of the past week preparing for/attending the Austin Lindy Exchange.

What did I learn this past week?

  • I got to learn more about my friend Erica. Stitch and Whine was at her place on Sunday.
  • The polyester I selected for Karen's pants stretched more than I expected it to.
Projects!
  • Sewing: Spinsta (my clothing line) is becoming more of a reality. Sunday (graphic designer and rockstar) finished my logo. I will be registering a domain name shortly. Sassy Britches by Spinsta made their official debut this weekend... Karen's pants were finished in time for the dance on Friday.
  • Dance: ALX 2006

Children's Book Week

I blame "The Lorax," by Dr. Seus for my career choice. Unfortunately I am too much of a wimp to become an activist (no benefits, potential jail time, etc...).

What did I learn this past week?

  • More on the dysfunctional financial situation at work. I attended more training last week.
  • We had a Division retreat last week and found out that other sections get treated like the redheadded stepchild as well. I also learned that we are suffering from severe communication issues. We are not obeying the laws of Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts (using resourses wisely).
  • I went to a party on Saturday and was reminded that I've still got it.
  • When someone tells you to add ice to your glass full of margarita, you should listen. Dilution!
Projects!
  • The pants sewing marathon begins. The trial run of Sassy Britches (hot pants for hot chicks) by Spinster is on the way. Right now its a little random as far as fabric choices. You get what I give you. The design is the same (you get to choose the leg width). My sister says I should call them "Random Pants". I think that when I corner the one size fit all market randompants.com may have to be it.

Pursuit of Happiness Week

If happiness = sleep then I am definitely in search of happiness. I just got back from a full weekend of dance in Dallas and I have yet to catch up on sleep.

What did I learn this past week?

  • I got to catch up with old friends. I went out to dinner with my friend Kevin who I haven't seen since high school. We've kept in touch for the past 10 years via email. It was a little weird because the image I had of him never aged. It was great catching up with him though. Some things are better said in person versus via email.
  • I was once again reminded how cool my job is. My team lead asked me if there was anything that I would like to have added to my job description or if I wanted to make any changes.
  • I learned a lot on the agencies view of grant management. I was trapped in training for a day and a half. I don't think that I want to manage a whole grant. Maybe a project here or there but not the whole grant. It is a financial nightmare.
Projects!
  • Sewing: I bought a bunch of fabric to make more PANTS. I think that I will start on the red pants for Karen first.
  • Dance: I attended my first workshop in 2 years. It felt good to be back.
  • Soul Cleansing: I caught up with 2 great guy friends of mine this weekend.

CSS Reboot

Welcome to the rebooted version of projectjen.com.

Here is the old face of the site...

I decided to go with a fall theme and correct some of the CSS glitches that were uncovered in the old page. I am not too keen on the background just yet. There was a background image but it was way to hefty and the image loading time would be unpleasant for most.
