The Magic of Differences Week

I know the update is late this week. I was in NY/CT this weekend and I am exhausted from a weekend of dancing and sleep deprivation.

What did I learn this past week?

  • I've been cramming for work. I need to know as much as possible about soil sampling/analysis and the effects of phosphorus.
  • Public transportation in big cities is great. I took advantage of the subway, bus and train on my voyage.
  • Sunshine orage RIT dye doesn't come out as bright as the box says. If you want a real orange use tangerine.
Projects!
  • Crafts: I am finishing my Halloween costume. I need to have it completed before 8pm on Saturday.

National Chemistry Week

How appropriate that I be studying up on soil chemistry and sampling techniques this week.

What did I learn this past week?

  • I learned a lot about water quality and the different parties at work to insure that the water is safe to drink.
  • The website for the Mayan Ranch doesn't lie. it is really a working dude ranch. I didn't ride the horses but I did go out and explore.
Projects!
  • Sewing: 2 pairs of pants completed.
  • Crafts: I am working on my Halloween costume. It's top secret. I can say that it involved glitter, iron on transfers, and orange fabric dye.
  • Website: I did some more dabbling for the reboot.
  • Yard: I am thankful that I have a mulching mower. No more raking leaves!!!
  • Soul Cleansing: working on burning some more vacation time.

Fire Prevention Week

The update is a day ahead schedule because I will be heading out to the Mayan Ranch for a conference.

My thoughts on fire prevention...
1) don't take the battery out of the fire extenguisher to prevent the chirping noise when it is dead. REPLACE the battery!
2) know how to use a fire extinguisher. You can take classes on this. Go visit your local fire house (most do not have poles anymore because they were a safety hazard) and ask them for a demonstration.
3) do not leave food unattended in microwaves and toaster ovens. I swear one day the break room is going to catch on fire.

What did I learn last week?

  • Sick people should not go to work. I took two days off to deal with some sort of allergy sinus thing or something that a co-worker brought in from their kid.
  • I made popovers for breakfast yesterday and I discovered that the only levening agent in them is eggs. No baking soda or powder. I'd never eaten/made them before. They were tasty. Kind of french toast-y tasting.
Projects!
  • Website: I am working on the CSS reboot. I am changing the seasons of my website. I am having issues with getting css border images to work. I will be triumphant by Nov 1 and noon.
  • Sewing: I cut out 2 pairs of pants. I am nearing the stage where I attach the waistband.
  • Soul Cleansing: I watched "The Point" last week during my sick day couch-a-thon. It reminded me that 1) things aren't always what they seem and 2) you see what you want to see vs what is really there.

Customer Service Week

Your homework assignment is to think about what customer service means and to be more conscious about the services you provide to customers.

What did I learn this past week?

  • I finally went out to test drive cars. You can read part one of my review here...
  • I learned that the world's largest catfish is in Athens, Texas. I drove through there last week on a business trip.
  • I learned that the Collin Street Bakery is a nice place for a rest stop between Austin and Hughes Springs. The restrooms are really clean and they make a good fruit cake.

Projects!
  • Crafts: Still scrapbooking.
  • Sewing: I cut out 2 pairs of pants.
  • Yard: brown and crispy.
  • Website: I totally forgot about the CSS reboot. I should get going on the next face for projectjen.com The deadline is November 1st.
